Wes’s Window on the Physio

by wes

I feel like I spend more time at the physio or getting massages than I do actually training.

One week it’s my shoulder. The next week I get out of bed funny and suddenly my hip hurts. I recently woke up with a sore neck because apparently I had slept too aggressively.

There was a time when I could put my body through brutal punishment and nothing happened.

Train ridiculously hard. Don’t stretch. Lift heavy things. Run. Jump. Twist myself into questionable positions. Wake up the next morning and do it all again.

I genuinely thought my body was bulletproof.

Turns out it was just younger.

The annoying part is that I still want to train like I did years ago. My body, however, has started sending strongly worded correspondence suggesting otherwise.

So I’ve had to change the plan.

More stretching. More mobility. Yoga. Strength work that actually serves a purpose. Cardiovascular fitness. Recovery. Endurance. And occasionally admitting that lying face down while someone attacks my glutes with an elbow counts as today’s fitness activity.

The goal has changed too.

It’s not simply about how hard I can train or how much I can lift anymore. I want strength, flexibility, cardiovascular health and a body that hopefully still works properly in twenty years.

Different circumstances require different plans.

Which, strangely enough, is exactly what happens in real estate.

Markets change.

Interest rates change. Stock levels change. Buyers change. Sellers change. What worked brilliantly a few years ago may be completely wrong for the market sitting in front of you today.

You cannot keep doing the same thing simply because it worked before.

Sometimes you push. Sometimes you hold back. Sometimes you need more patience. Sometimes you need to completely rethink the strategy.

My body has been rather painfully teaching me that lately.

Pay attention to what is actually happening now, not what used to work.

Bodies change. Markets change.

The plan should too.
